Who knows? That is not the point – the 240 refers to something entirely different, as you will soon find out.

Starting The Food Diary Project

This free online food diary started as a concept long ago. Various factors have delayed the start of the project, but 2012 is the year to get things moving. The delays do not matter. It is what happens next that counts.

Alongside improving and extending the food diary forum at foodary.com, I will start the online food diary here. This allows registered members to keep records of what they eat and drink. The diary will provide an analysis of all important nutritional components. You can use this information to improve your diet. I will focus on health requirements to build in advice for both general health, and any specific dietary restrictions you may have.

Please note, that I am not saying that diet improvement alone can make you healthy.

I will write more about the background to this website soon. In a nutshell, I have an arthritic health problem that is often associated with poor diet. There are many complications that can arise where aspects of diet are associated with aspects of food. The most common consideration is increased risk of heart disease and stroke when poor diet leads to obesity. There are many specific health problems associated with certain food intolerances, and there are psychological issues associated with diet.

I have found that knowledge is power, and much of the confusion and concern regarding diet and health can be simplified and overcome by learning. This does not mean random reading of every Internet site revealed by a search engine. It means a structured, peer-supported learning program that helps you understand and control the health aspects of your diet. And the diet aspects of your health.

When you have this knowledge, you become free to eat more of what you want, and free to replace the problem foods with healthy alternatives. My website to help you find health freedom, like this website, is in it’s early stages. However, 2012 will see it transformed into a free resource that may set you off on a unique journey. That approach to health freedom may not suit everyone, but the food diary I am building here will help everyone who wants to improve their diet.

My food diary is based on the truth that you can never successfully improve your diet until you know what will be best for you. This starts with an analysis of what you eat currently, followed by a gentle program to change gradually, and improve until you meet your goals.

Changing everything by going on a strict diet plan, devised for a wide group of people, is rarely successful. If you are lucky, you might be able to stay with the off-the-shelf diet plan and see some improvements. Alternatively, if you follow my pathway to a personal diet plan, you are certain to enjoy better diet, and this leads to better health.

Why 240 Apples?

The 240 in the title of this article is nothing to do with the number of apples in the basket.

A number of things have happened recently to prompt me to start a new diet plan, and I will support myself by building my food diary software, which I will invite you to share freely in the near future. I know what I want from this health improvement program, and so I know what I need from my food diary. I know that the food diary will be helpful to you, but there may be specific features that you need that I have never even thought of.

If you have specific needs from a food diary, please let me know below. I have tried other online food diaries, and I hope to overcome the weaknesses that I have found. If you have tried other online food diaries, please share your experiences and opinions, good or bad.

So, back to the 240. The first step in any good diet improvement program is to assess where you are. Then you can set achievable goals, and plan what you will change, and when you will change it. Many of my personal dietary concerns revolve around weight, and weight related issues like cholesterol, uric acid, and blood pressure.

At least once a week, I will update you with my progress, including more about my starting position and my goals. I will keep it simple for now – I weigh 240 pounds, and want to lose weight, without adversely affecting other aspects of my health.
